My name is Ashton Weis and I am a magazine journalism and English double major at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am a senior and am from a small northeastern Iowan town. I love reading, swimming and traveling.

Hi! My name is Susanna Hayward and I’m a senior in high school in the small town of Cape Girardeau Missouri. It’s my dream to work for a magazine in graphic design and journalism, which is why I applied to Drake. I’ve been accepted but still completely on the fence about where to go to school. I’m definitely not the type to stay in my home town or go off to college with people I know. Currently I’m torn between University of Illinois at Chicago and Drake. Drake is the more affordable option but Chicago has enticed me by the big city and urban feel. It’s coming down to the wire when it comes to deciding where to go. I was wondering your opinion on my choice of college and how Drake helped you with your career paths. I read your going to New York for magazine major? That is SO COOL! I really hope you have time to give me some advice! It’d be much appreciated:)

I’m obviously going to tell you to go to Drake! Lol with that said, University of Illinois is much much bigger than Drake. You will have much more focused and personal attention here. Des Moines is also a really great town for young professionals, so that’s good. My advisor and all the magazine professors have been so helpful and I am currently on my third internship and I’m only a junior. Ten journalism students and I just got back from visiting New York with one of our professor and we visited 11 different magazines, including Vogue, Esquire, Men’s Health, and Glamour. It was a really great opportunity for networking and you’ll have the opportunity to go your junior or senior year. At Drake, it’s also really easy to double in graphic design and magazine journalism.
